American Society of Civil Engineers
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), founded in 1852, is the oldest national engineering society in the United States.
ASCE-UTSA received its student chapter charter in 1989 and has since been one of the most active organizations in the College of Engineering. Our goal is to promote the interest and participation in civil and environmental engineering by means of interaction with professionals and faculty as well as student team competitions.
ASCE-UTSA holds bi-weekly meetings in the fall and spring semesters in which we invite professional engineers from the San Antonio engineering community to discuss the various fields of civil engineering and the problems and solutions we will face in the workplace.
We also actively participate in hands on competitions such as the Steel Bridge and Concrete Canoe which encourage student members to work as a team to by designing and constructing a finished product that will go on to compete against other universities in the nation.
The ASCE-UTSA Steel Bridge Team competed in nationals in Las Vegas, Nevada in May 2009 and this year, ASCE-UTSA will be hosting the 2010 Texas-Mexico Regional Steel Bridge Competition in Early January.
