Society of Women Engineers
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE), founded in 1950, is a not-for-profit educational and service organization. SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women. SWE empowers women to succeed and advance in those aspirations and be recognized for their life-changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders. SWE at UTSA is focused on collecting and giving out information regarding internships, scholarships, and career opportunities for engineering students at UTSA, and of course, more specifically, females in engineering. SWE at UTSA also promotes programs such as MATHCOUNTS and Girl Scouts, that bridge the gaps in recruitment, educational development, and retention of young women in the field of science and technology. Previously SWE has been involved with Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, Getting Excited About Robotics (GEAR), Girl Scouts, AT&T Tech Day, MAES Science Extravaganza, as well as Engineering Week. SWE has weekly meetings to discuss volunteer activities, social events, as well as prepare for outreaches and fundraisers.
